Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Durk has been arrested in Florida on federal charges related to an attempted revenge killing of rapper Quando Rondo in Los Angeles, resulting in the death of Rondo’s cousin. The shooting was allegedly in retaliation for the 2020 slaying of OTF rapper King Von. Durk and five other members of his rap collective, “Only the Family,” have been arrested, with more arrests expected.
Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was attempting to flee the country when he was arrested. He won a Grammy earlier this year for Best Melodic Rap Performance. The FBI affidavit states that OTF members engage in violence at the direction of Durk to maintain their status in the group.
The murder plot targeted Rondo and resulted in the death of Saviay’a Robinson in Los Angeles. The suspects then fled back to Chicago after the shooting. Durk and the other defendants are being held pending transfer to Los Angeles.
Durk had been honored by villages in the Chicago area for his charity work, but after news of the arrest, one of the mayors announced severing ties with Durk’s charity. Despite the charges, the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty. The villages are standing by their moral and ethical standards and are re-evaluating their partnerships.
