Col. Geoffrey Noble has been sworn in as the new leader of the Massachusetts State Police, becoming the first outsider to hold this position. Noble, a retired law enforcement officer with a 30-year career, was selected following the retirement of Col. Christopher Mason. He is committed to implementing community-centered policing and rebuilding trust with the community in the wake of corruption scandals within the department. Noble’s appointment comes amidst ongoing investigations into misconduct within the department, including the mistrial of Karen Read’s case and the death of a trainee during a training program. With his experience in law enforcement and private security, Noble aims to reduce crime, embrace innovation, and implement best practices to address the evolving needs of the Commonwealth. Governor Maura Healey has expressed confidence in Noble’s leadership and ability to address the challenges facing the department. In his new role, Noble recognizes the importance of earning the trust of both the department and the community. He acknowledges the support he has received throughout his career and is grateful for the opportunity to lead the Massachusetts State Police. With a focus on accountability, transparency, and effective policing, Noble is committed to upholding the mission of public service and ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents of Massachusetts.
