Westfield High School Senior Fills 800 "Bags for Bravery" for Troops and Veterans
WESTFIELD — This past weekend, Jillian Battles, a dedicated senior at Westfield High School, achieved an inspiring milestone by successfully filling 800 "Bags for Bravery." These care packages, intended for active duty troops and veterans, include a thoughtful assortment of personal care items, throw blankets, notebooks, writing supplies, playing cards, and a variety of snacks.
Jillian’s mission, now in its fourth consecutive year, reflects her commitment to supporting military personnel and honoring their service. The initiative has gained momentum each year, thanks to the collaborative efforts of her mother, Jen Battles, local businesses, and enthusiastic community volunteers who all contributed time and resources.
The "Bags for Bravery" initiative not only provides essential items to those serving our country but also fosters a sense of connection and gratitude, ensuring that troops and veterans feel remembered and appreciated. With an impressive total of 800 bags filled this year, Jillian and her team have significantly expanded the reach of this charitable project.
Jillian expressed her gratitude for the support received from the community, noting, "It truly takes a village to make this happen. I’m thankful for everyone who helped in this effort to give back to those who give so much for us." The initiative has become a beloved tradition in Westfield, uniting residents in a common cause and showcasing the impactful role that youth can play in their communities.
As the project continues to grow, Jillian Battles hopes to inspire others to participate in similar charitable efforts, emphasizing the importance of community involvement and support for those who serve in the armed forces.
