Upcoming Programs and Contest at Berkshire Botanical Garden and Beyond

STOCKBRIDGE – The Berkshire Botanical Garden is set to host an insightful program titled "Plant Health Care," running from November 26 to December 17, every Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Conducted by instructor Jen Werner, this four-session course will delve into the numerous factors affecting plant health, covering topics such as insects, diseases, pathogens, and the impact of abiotic factors. Participants will acquire basic diagnostic skills and learn strategies to minimize plant health issues through effective site management, plant selection, and placement. The program will also address integrated pest management using biological, chemical, and cultural methods. Registration costs are $215 for members and $240 for non-members. Interested individuals can visit www.berkshirebotanical.org for more details.

SPRINGFIELD – Additionally, the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts, in collaboration with the USDA Forest Service and National Garden Clubs, Inc., is hosting the 2025 Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster Contest. This contest invites students from first through fifth grade to express their understanding of wildfire prevention and environmental conservation through original artwork featuring Smokey Bear or Woodsy Owl. While individual entries are welcomed, schools and clubs are encouraged to involve their members in promoting environmental stewardship. Each poster must include the correct spelling and relevant conservation messages. Complete contest guidelines, including poster size and materials, are available on the GCFM website at www.gcfm.org/ngc-youth-contests. All entries must be submitted to a recognized local garden club by January 10, 2025. For further inquiries, contact Mary Bandouveres at gcfmyouthcontests@gmail.com.

For inclusion in Garden Notes, items should be sent to pmastriano@repub.com at least two weeks before publication.
