Uxbridge Field Hockey Claims Historic Fourth Consecutive State Title
WORCESTER – Uxbridge High School’s field hockey team has etched its name in history by winning a fourth straight state title, becoming the first team since Watertown to achieve this remarkable feat in MIAA history. The top-seeded Spartans (21-2) triumphed over No. 2 Monomoy (20-1-2) with a solid 3-1 victory in the Division 4 state final held at Worcester State on Saturday.
The standout of the match was Julianna Casucci, who netted a hat trick, highlighting her crucial contributions as the Spartans dominated much of the game. Two of her goals came in a pivotal second quarter, where Uxbridge rebounded from a shaky start after Monomoy initiated strong offensive play. Casucci opened the scoring early in the second period with a well-executed reverse chip shot, followed by a tip-in of a drive from teammate Amelia Blood, establishing a 2-0 lead.
Despite a late goal from Monomoy, Uxbridge maintained control, with Casucci sealing the game with her third goal in the final minutes. Head coach Kelly Rosborough praised her players’ dedication and expressed pride in this unprecedented achievement for Uxbridge. "To go four consecutive years in a row and join the ranks of some amazing schools in Massachusetts, we’re just so proud and excited,” she stated.
Casucci reflected on the team’s journey, emphasizing the collective effort that made their victory possible, saying, "The feeling is great…the reward from the goals of getting to celebrate with my team is more rewarding than the actual goals themselves.” With this victory, Uxbridge heads into Division 3 next year, capping off an exceptional chapter in their program’s history.
