MBTA Announces Shuttle Bus Replacement on Red Line for Track Repairs
Boston, MA – Starting November 17 at 8:30 p.m. and continuing through November 24, shuttle buses will replace train service on the Red Line between Harvard and Broadway. This interruption is part of essential track repair efforts necessary to maintain safety and service reliability.
As the city gears up for this temporary shutdown, Bostonians are reminded of the familiar inconvenience of traversing the city via late-night shuttle buses. Commuters looking to navigate around the closure can consider alternate transport options suggested on the City of Boston’s website. While no service will be available between Charles/MGH and Downtown Crossing, shuttles will run to Haymarket and State, allowing transfers to the Orange, Green, or Blue lines.
Additional bus services, including the 66, 86, 1, and 47, will assist commuters traveling through the Brighton/Allston area and downtown Cambridge. In a bid to ease the transition, the Commuter Rail will offer fare-free travel between Porter Square and North Station, and Braintree and South Station during this period. Moreover, BlueBikes will extend discounts to users, with promotional unlock codes available for free rides starting November 5 and November 18.
Residents are advised to plan their trips accordingly and keep an eye on updates for further extended D and E line shutdowns slated for December. As always, the MBTA encourages patience and flexibility as they work to improve public transit infrastructure.
