Renowned actor Richard Gere, known for films like “American Gigolo” and “Pretty Woman,” is making a big change by moving to Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silva, and their children. Gere, 75, shared this news during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” mentioning that they will be spending Thanksgiving in Madrid. Gere explained that his wife is Spanish and has given him seven years in the US, so they are now planning to spend some years in Madrid to be closer to her family. The couple shares two young sons, and they also have a child each from their previous marriages, creating a blended family.
The decision to move to Spain was driven by Silva’s desire to be near her family and culture, as revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair Spain earlier in the year. The move comes after Gere sold his Connecticut home in October for $10.7 million. The couple married in 2018 after meeting in 2014. Gere expressed excitement about his wife taking on the role of the new matriarch in her extended Spanish family, following the passing of her grandmother.
Gere’s relocation to Spain follows a trend of celebrities considering moving out of the US after Donald Trump’s election, with Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi reportedly selling their mansion in California and moving to the UK. Gere’s decision to move to Spain reflects his commitment to supporting his wife and experiencing her culture firsthand.
