Massachusetts GOP criticizes liberal leaders following child rape allegations against illegal immigrants

The Massachusetts GOP has criticized Democrats Gov. Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu for refusing to cooperate with ICE after the arrests of three illegal immigrants on child rape charges. Despite Healey and Wu’s public statements against working with the Trump administration on immigration enforcement, ICE announced the arrests of two individuals charged with raping children in Massachusetts and another convicted in Brazil. MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale called the leaders’ positions “appalling and disgusting” for prioritizing political appeasement over public safety.

The suspects arrested by ICE included individuals from Guatemala, Colombia, and Brazil who had entered the U.S. illegally. Despite immigration detainers being lodged against them, they were released on bail in Massachusetts. The situation has prompted State Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr and House Minority Leader Brad Jones to file legislation to address loopholes created by a state court decision that prevented cooperation with ICE detainers, allowing the release of illegal immigrants accused of crimes.

The immigration issues in Massachusetts mirror similar concerns across the U.S., with House Republicans raising questions about the U.S. losing track of migrant children and alleged failures in the vetting process that led to minors being sent to gang members and a strip club. The GOP is urging Democrats to prioritize public safety over political posturing and pass necessary measures to address these concerns.
