Makary, originally from Liverpool, England, is a graduate of Bucknell University, Thomas Jefferson University, and Harvard University. He is known for his advocacy for physician-led initiatives such as The Surgical Checklist, which he developed at Johns Hopkins. Makary has received awards for his work in evidence-based medicine and public policy research and currently leads a research group at Johns Hopkins.
