Millions of Travel Plans at Risk Due to Impending Storms

A winter storm that hit California’s Sierra Nevada mountains is expected to move towards the Colorado Rockies and potentially impact the Appalachians on Thanksgiving Day, creating travel disruptions for millions of Americans. Denver may see a couple of inches of snow, leading to flight delays and slower travel on major highways. The storm’s track and intensity will determine the type of precipitation and snowfall amounts in the Midwest and Northeast. Cold temperatures accompanying the storm could bring below-freezing conditions to 196 million Americans by Saturday. The storm will coincide with some of the busiest travel days of the year, with 79.9 million people expected to travel for Thanksgiving, according to AAA. The TSA anticipates screening a record number of passengers during this period. In Colorado, heavy snow is forecasted to hit the Rockies and Intermountain West, with up to 4 feet of snow in isolated areas. Winter weather advisories have been issued for high elevation areas, and snowfall is expected to peak between Tuesday and Wednesday. The storm will also bring rain and snow to the Denver metro area and the Palmer Divide.
