Suffolk Superior Court jury has ruled against Boston Water and Sewer Commission’s human resources director Marie Theodat, ordering her to pay $72,000 to a woman she stiffed on a $75,000 mortgage loan. The jury found Theodat had defaulted on the loan and never fully repaid it, despite signing a promissory note. The lawsuit, filed in 2020, is just one of the legal battles Theodat is facing. Another high-profile case alleges she swindled her uncle out of his $1.1 million Dorchester home. The jury also rejected a cross-claim seeking restitution from Theodat and held her responsible for the $72,000 owed to the plaintiff. Theodat was promoted to chief human resource officer at the Commission in September, with a salary increase to $202,873. The case has shed light on Theodat’s alleged financial dealings and legal troubles, raising questions about her conduct as a public official. Despite the verdict, Theodat’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment. The outcome of this trial is seen as a measure of justice for the plaintiff and a step towards holding Theodat accountable for her actions.
