At 80+ age division, James “Red” Hart sets new bench press world record
James Hart, also known as “Red,” has made headlines yet again in the powerlifting world by setting a new world record in bench press. Competing in the 80+ age division at the Raw Powerlifting Federation 2024 World Championships in Virginia Beach, Hart took home the gold by bench pressing an impressive 215 pounds in the 148-164 pound weight class. This incredible lift shattered the previous record of 198 pounds set by Joe Stockinger in 2014.
Hart credited his success to his rigorous training at the Eastern Shore Family YMCA in Onley, where he has been working hard to stay in peak physical condition. This latest achievement adds to his list of accomplishments, as he previously set a world record in the 70-75 age division in 2015, surpassing the previous record by 25 pounds.
Hart expressed his determination to continue training and competing for as long as he is able. The World Championships saw competitors from 18 different countries, including athletes from Ukraine. Hart’s dedication to the sport and his impressive performances continue to inspire those around him.
As an 80-year-old powerlifting phenomenon, James “Red” Hart continues to defy expectations and break records with his incredible strength and determination. His latest achievement has once again solidified his place as one of the greatest bench press competitors of all time.
