In a recent development, Downing Street has rejected Russia’s allegations that a British diplomat expelled from Moscow was a spy, calling the claims “baseless”. The diplomat, named Edward Wilkes by the Russian FSB security service, was accused of intentionally providing false information upon entering Russia. The UK Foreign Office has called these allegations “malicious and baseless” and is considering a response.
On the war front, Ukraine is withdrawing around 100,000 faulty 120mm mortar shells from the frontline after reports of misfiring. The supply of defective shells is being investigated by an interdepartmental commission, with Ukraine’s defence ministry confirming the recall of the ammunition.
Russian forces are reportedly advancing in Ukraine at the fastest rate since the early days of the 2022 invasion, capturing an area half the size of London over the past month.
