As Thanksgiving approaches, Americans are preparing for the annual traditions of turkey, travel, and holiday shopping. While most government offices, banks, and stock markets will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, retailers like Walmart, Target, Macy’s, Kohl’s, Costco, CVS, and Walgreens have varying hours for Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Grocery stores will be open on Thanksgiving for last-minute needs, while travel is expected to be busy with a record-breaking 79.9 million travelers going 50 miles or more from home over the holiday period. This projection by AAA includes the Tuesday before and Monday after Thanksgiving to better capture the flow of travelers. The estimate of nearly 80 million travelers is an increase of 1.7 million people from last year and 2 million more than in 2019. As Americans gather for turkey dinners and embark on holiday shopping sprees, the holiday season is in full swing with the hustle and bustle of travel and transactions.
