The Arizona-based produce company SunFed Produce has issued a recall on cucumbers sold in the US and Canada after a CDC investigation linked them to a salmonella outbreak. The potentially contaminated cucumbers were sold between October 12 and November 26 and may bear the “SunFed” label or sticker with the grower’s name, “Agrotato, S.A. de C.V.” In total, 68 people in 19 states have been infected with salmonella from these cucumbers. SunFed President Craig Slate emphasized the company’s swift actions to protect consumers and is working with authorities to determine the cause of the contamination. Symptoms of salmonella can be serious and may lead to complications such as infected aneurysms, endocarditis, and arthritis. Consumers who bought these cucumbers are urged to check for contamination and dispose of them, as well as clean any surfaces they may have touched. If anyone has consumed a contaminated cucumber and feels unwell, they are advised to contact a healthcare provider.
