Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts has announced that starting in the fall of 2025, it will become the most affordable four-year state school in the state by covering the full cost of tuition and mandatory fees for in-state undergraduate students whose families earn $125,000 or less annually. This initiative, known as the Bridgewater Commitment, aims to make higher education more accessible to students from lower-income families. The program will be available to new and returning full-time undergraduate students enrolled in their first bachelor’s degree next fall. This move aligns with similar commitments made by other Massachusetts universities, including MIT, Brandeis, and the University of Massachusetts, to make education more affordable. The funding for the program comes from philanthropy, fundraising efforts, and federal and state contributions. Bridgewater State University hopes that this initiative will help students focus on their education and future without the burden of financial stress.
