It felt like the apocalypse

A family in Randolph experienced a devastating house fire that destroyed all their belongings, leaving them with only five minutes to escape with their lives. The family, already struggling financially and relying on SNAP benefits, lost everything in the fire, including their pet hamster. More than 80 residents were displaced, and the building was razed, leaving behind a barren lot with remnants of the residents’ past lives scattered around.

Despite the tragedy, the mother expressed gratitude towards the community of Randolph for their support and the firefighters who rescued their kitten from the balcony. The family had previously received holiday gifts from Globe Santa and hoped for support again this year. The Globe Santa campaign has been providing gifts to children in need for nearly 70 years, and generous donors from across Boston have made it possible. The heartfelt letters to Globe Santa highlight the challenges many families face, not just with low incomes but with a relentless piling of problems.
