The Berkshire Botanical Garden in Stockbridge is offering a Planting Design Studio course on Saturdays, December 14 and 21. Taught by Tom Smith of Springfield Technical Community College, the course will focus on designing planting plans for garden spaces, exploring form, color, and texture of plant material. Students will present their projects and receive feedback to enhance their learning experience. The cost is $215 for members and $240 for nonmembers.
In Springfield, the Springfield Garden Club will host a holiday tablescape event, “Celebrating December Holidays with Honored Guests”, on December 14 and 15 at the Old Monkey House in Forest Park. Members will create unique table settings for special guests, real or fictional, past or present. Admission is $10 for adults and $25 for families, with proceeds benefiting the conservatory at Forest Park.
Additionally, the Garden Club Federation of Massachusetts is holding a Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl Poster contest for students in first through fifth grade. Participants are invited to create original drawings featuring the conservation icons and their messages of wildfire prevention and environmental conservation. Posters must be submitted to a sponsoring local garden club by January 10, 2025, with complete rules available on the GCFM website.
