Calls by Palestinians to end Israeli attacks on West Bank hospitals spark urgency in Israel-Palestine conflict

The Israeli military has apprehended an injured Palestinian in Nablus, despite hospitals being protected under international law. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has called for international intervention to stop Israel’s attacks on the healthcare system. The raid on the Arab Specialized Hospital in Nablus resulted in the arrest of Ayman Ghanem, who was targeted by a drone attack. Israeli authorities confirmed his apprehension, accusing him of being part of a terrorist cell responsible for a shooting attack that killed an Israeli. The Palestinian Health Ministry has urged international institutions and the Red Cross to intervene and protect healthcare facilities and staff.

In a separate incident, Israeli forces raided a hospital in Tubas, arresting five staff members and beating the head of the emergency department. This is not the first time Israeli forces have conducted raids on hospitals in the occupied West Bank, sometimes resulting in targeted killings within hospital premises. In January, Israeli forces disguised as medical staff shot dead three Palestinians inside a hospital in Jenin.

These actions have raised concerns about Israel’s violation of international humanitarian law, which protects health establishments, staff, and patients. The Palestinian Ministry of Health is calling for immediate action to stop these attacks on healthcare facilities and ensure the safety of medical personnel and patients. The Israeli military maintains that it will continue to operate as necessary to thwart terrorism and protect Israeli civilians in the area.
