Another blue city strengthens commitment to impede Trump’s mass deportation plan

The Boston City Council unanimously voted to reaffirm the Trust Act, a measure aimed at obstructing President-elect Trump’s plans for mass deportations. The Trust Act, first passed in 2014 and amended in 2019, seeks to protect immigrant communities from unjust enforcement actions and restrict Boston police’s cooperation with ICE. The resolution adopted by the council emphasizes the city’s commitment to protecting immigrant residents and upholding the Trust Act. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has vowed that the city will not cooperate with Trump’s plans for mass deportations, highlighting the importance of protecting residents regardless of their immigration status. Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has also pledged to use every tool available to protect residents from mass deportations. Democratic leaders across the country, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, have similarly pledged resistance to Trump’s deportation plans. A recent ICE arrest in Boston, where a Colombian illegal immigrant charged with child sex offenses was released back onto the streets, has further fueled the city’s determination to resist mass deportations. Despite threats from former ICE officials like Tom Homan, Democratic leaders remain committed to protecting immigrant communities and ensuring the safety and dignity of all residents.
