Qatar sees “momentum” in Gaza ceasefire talks as dozens of Palestinians are killed in continued Israeli attacks on the enclave. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that the country stepped back from mediating due to lack of willingness, but has sensed a change after the US election. Efforts to end the war, which has killed over 44,600 Palestinians, have faced challenges, with criticism directed at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and outgoing US President Joe Biden.
President-elect Donald Trump has also voiced support for Israel, warning of consequences if captives in Gaza are not released. Meanwhile, Gaza is facing intense bombardment, with 39 Palestinians killed in recent attacks. The Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza has been besieged by Israeli forces, leading to the evacuation of an international medical team that was providing aid.
The World Health Organization has called for the protection of healthcare facilities and an end to hostilities. In Doha, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani expressed hope for a meaningful agreement, emphasizing the need for willingness from all parties to end the war and reach a deal. The Gulf country is working to protect the negotiation process and achieve a positive outcome as soon as possible.
