The new Vix biopic “Jenni” tells the tragic story of Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera, showcasing her rise to success in the music industry while battling personal hardships. Directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero and starring Annie Gonzalez, the film depicts Rivera’s humble beginnings in California, her tumultuous marriages, and her untimely death in 2012.
Born into a musical family, Rivera’s father encouraged her to pursue music despite her desire to study and build a career in real estate. She recorded her first album in 1993, which marked the beginning of her successful music career. The film also explores Rivera’s struggles with teen pregnancy, domestic violence, and sexual abuse.
Throughout her career, Rivera achieved great success, selling out the Staples Center in Los Angeles and becoming one of the most successful female regional Mexican singers. She was nominated for multiple music awards and had a flourishing business in clothing and beauty products. Rivera’s life came to a tragic end in a plane crash in 2012, along with several others on board, including her lawyer and makeup artist.
“Jenni” brings to life the story of a remarkable woman who overcame numerous challenges to become a music icon. The film honors Rivera’s legacy and sheds light on the complexities of her life, from her early struggles to her ultimate success in the music industry. It is now available in select theaters and on the Spanish-language streaming service Vix.
