Rep. Lori Trahan, D-Mass., revealed on Saturday that she and her family were targeted by a bomb threat, prompting an investigation by local police in collaboration with the U.S. Capitol Police. Trahan expressed gratitude for the swift response of the Westford Police Department to ensure their safety. The Massachusetts State Police bomb squad conducted a search of the residence but did not find any device, indicating no immediate threat to public safety.
In a statement, Trahan denounced threats of violence and intimidation as unacceptable in the country. The incident appears to be part of a series of unfounded threats against political figures nationwide, according to a Massachusetts State Police spokesperson. The Capitol Police did not immediately comment on the matter.
This threat comes in the wake of similar incidents targeting members of Congress and President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks. Last week, bomb threats were directed at several Democratic lawmakers in New England, including Rep. Seth Moulton, although no explosives were discovered.
The Capitol Police have been actively investigating threats against lawmakers, with over 8,000 cases looked into in the previous year. The exact figures for 2024 have not been released yet. As investigations continue, Trahan and other politicians remain vigilant in the face of potential threats, emphasizing the importance of safety and security in the current political climate.
