President-elect Donald Trump indicated in a recent interview that he could not guarantee that American families would not face increased costs due to tariffs imposed on top trading partners, despite his campaign promises. Trump, in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press,” disagreed with economists suggesting that tariffs could lead to higher prices for consumers. He also discussed his plans to pardon Jan. 6 rioters, his deportation strategies focused on those in the country illegally, and his intent to potentially ban birthright citizenship through executive order. Additionally, Trump shared his views on NATO and his pick to lead the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, who is facing allegations and challenges in the Senate.
In the interview, Trump stated that he would not interfere with the Department of Justice and FBI’s decisions on investigating his opponents or members of the Jan. 6 committee. He expressed his support for Hegseth, even though he has not received confirmations from senators. Trump also addressed his plans to reconsider birthright citizenship, deportations, and NATO alliances based on member countries’ contributions to defense spending. The president-elect emphasized his commitment to his campaign promises while acknowledging potential challenges ahead.
