Fadia Wadi, a 44-year-old mother of nine in Gaza, is facing unimaginable challenges as she struggles to feed her children in the midst of a war-torn region. With flour in short supply and too expensive, Fadia has resorted to using spoiled flour infested with bugs to make bread. Despite facing health risks, she feels it is a safer option than enduring the massive crowds at the bakery gates, which often result in stampedes and injuries.
Fadia’s eldest son was killed in an Israeli strike, leaving her as the sole provider for her remaining eight children. With basic staples like rice and pasta now unaffordable, she has no choice but to cook with insect-infested flour to feed her family. Unable to access aid parcels or regular supplies, Fadia’s life is marked by endless waiting and long queues for food and other necessities.
Dependent on charity distributions, Fadia describes a life dominated by hunger and uncertainty. “We are hungry, we crave everything. I don’t know what will happen to us,” she says. Despite the hardships she faces, Fadia remains determined to provide for her children, even if it means sacrificing her own health and well-being.
The worsening situation in Gaza has left families like Fadia’s in a desperate struggle for survival, with limited access to essential resources and little hope for a better future. As the conflict continues to take its toll on the lives of innocent civilians, Fadia’s story sheds light on the harsh realities faced by many in the region.
