The owners of a retail food market in Quincy, Wei Zheng and Cun Yong Liu, have entered a settlement with the government after being accused of selling misbranded, uninspected, and illegally imported meat and poultry. The consent decree resolves violations of the Federal Meat Inspection Act and the Poultry Products Inspection Act, following multiple warnings from the USDA. Over 440 pounds of non-compliant meat and poultry were found during a recent inspection, including products illegally imported from China.
Under the terms of the settlement, the store and owners will face penalties for future violations and be subject to rigorous oversight and inspections. U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy emphasized the importance of ensuring food safety for consumers and holding the defendants accountable for their actions. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Sharobem handled the case. Levy reiterated the office’s commitment to upholding federal food safety laws and protecting the health and safety of communities. The consent decree serves to ensure that the Quincy Convenience Store operates in compliance with federal regulations moving forward.
