Local standout A.J. Dybantsa from Brockton chooses BYU for college basketball. Top-ranked basketball recruit shares decision on ESPN – Boston Herald

Brockton native A.J. Dybantsa has announced that he will be playing college basketball at Brigham Young University. The talented 6-foot-9 swingman chose Brigham Young over Alabama, Kansas, and North Carolina. Coach Kevin Young played a significant role in Dybantsa’s decision, with his NBA coaching experience and positive reviews from players. Dybantsa’s ultimate goal is to make it to the NBA, and he was impressed by Young’s coaching of Kevin Durant.

Dybantsa has had a successful high school career, earning accolades at St. Sebastian’s and currently playing for Utah Prep where he is ranked highly in national high school rankings. Despite his short stay at Brigham Young, Dybantsa is considered a top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

On a different note, Needham High School’s Doug Kopcso has been named the New England Patriots Coach of the Year for leading his team to a 12-1 record and a trip to the MIAA Division I State Championship. NFL Hall of Famer Andre Tippett presented a generous donation to the Needham High football program for their outstanding season. Tippett commended the team’s resilience and heart under Kopcso’s leadership.
