Local Park Closed Indefinitely Due to Avian Flu Outbreak
D.W. Field Park in Brockton and Avon has been closed indefinitely after an outbreak of avian flu was suspected. The closure came after several swans and Canada geese were found dead in one of the park’s ponds. This decision was made as a precautionary measure by city and state officials in response to the wildlife issues.
The closure follows similar incidents in the region, including the discovery of over 60 dead birds at Billington Sea Pond in Plymouth. Officials have warned the public not to touch any injured or dead birds to prevent the spread of the flu. Domestic poultry owners are also advised to be vigilant for any signs of illness or death in their flocks.
Although avian flu rarely affects humans, the virus can be transmitted through contact with infected birds. Both wild and domesticated birds can be carriers of the disease. City and state agencies are working together to investigate the cause of the bird deaths and ensure the safety of the public and the local wildlife population.
