A winter storm system brought snow to much of the state overnight, but above-normal temperatures in the 40s are expected for much of the day on Wednesday. However, by Wednesday afternoon, a cold front will move in, causing temperatures to drop rapidly and bringing snow squalls and strong winds. Temperatures could fall by as much as 10 degrees in two hours, with snow squalls bringing all snow to the ground in the interior part of the state and rain possibly mixing in closer to the coast. Squalls are expected to start in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut around noon and move east through the afternoon. A wind advisory has been issued for the entire state from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with gusts reaching up to 40 or 50 mph. A winter weather advisory is in place for parts of Franklin and Hampshire counties, where up to 2 inches of snow could fall. The winds should diminish overnight, but temperatures could drop to the teens or single digits with wind chills at or below zero. Temperatures on Thursday are expected to remain in the low 20s with windy conditions.
