A man in Washington state has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly shooting his wife, Yiwen Lu, just two weeks after they got married. Brent Sachio Isaac Hamamoto fled the scene with their 1-year-old son, prompting a police response after an attorney reported the shooting. Lu had two gunshot wounds to her head, and the gun was likely fired within two feet of her. Court documents reveal that Hamamoto had purchased the gun just the day before the incident. The couple’s relationship had a history of domestic violence, with Hamamoto filing for a protection order in 2024, alleging threats from Lu to harm herself and their son. Text messages filed in court show Lu apologizing to Hamamoto for alleged sexual assault. Hamamoto is currently being held on a $3 million bail and faces a potential prison sentence of 15 to nearly 24 years if convicted. His next court date is scheduled for February 13. If you or someone you know is at risk of suicide or facing domestic abuse, resources are available through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and the National Domestic Violence Hotline.
