A Boston Public Schools teacher has been placed on leave after being arrested for allegedly engaging in “sexual communications” with underage girls across the country. John Gavin, a 34-year-old teacher at Josiah Quincy Upper School, was arrested for allegedly exchanging explicit photos with girls aged 12 to 17 on Discord. The victims identified were from Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.
Gavin faces charges including enticement of a child under 16, dissemination of harmful material to minors, and possession of visual material depicting sexual conduct. The Boston Public Schools district took immediate action and placed Gavin on administrative leave.
Gavin had previously worked at the Roland Hayes School in Brookline and the Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public School in Hyde Park. The schools stated that no complaints were ever filed against him during his tenure. The incident serves as a reminder to parents to educate their children about the dangers of online communication and to report any inappropriate interactions with adults.
