In a recent opinion piece by Ed Gaskin, the history of Christianity’s role in oppressing Black people was discussed. While Gaskin highlights the negative impact of some Christians using Biblical texts to justify slavery and discrimination, he also fails to acknowledge the many Christian leaders who fought against these injustices, including Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Christianity, with its tarnished history in slavery and the Crusades, has also had shining moments where people of faith risked everything to advocate for equality.
On a lighter note, Eugene R. Dunn suggests a solution to the annual productivity dip on “Super Sick Monday,” the day after the Super Bowl, by linking it to President’s Day. By making President’s Day a floating holiday that falls on the Monday after the Super Bowl, he argues that this change could save employers up to $3 billion in lost productivity and boost morale among American workers. Dunn proposes that President Trump and Elon Musk could easily implement this change with a simple executive order, eliminating “Super Sick Monday” and making America great again.
