The Boston Celtics secured a 116-103 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday at TD Garden, marking the end of the first half of the regular season. Jayson Tatum led the way with 32 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists, while Kristaps Porzingis added 29 points. Despite a late surge by the Spurs, the Celtics maintained control to improve to 39-16, while the Spurs fell to 23-29.
The Celtics showcased strong performance heading into the All-Star break, winning seven of their last eight games and improving to 17-10 at home. Torrey Craig made his debut for the Celtics, contributing six points in nine minutes after being sidelined by an ankle injury. The team also managed to contain Spurs’ All-Star Victor Wembanyama, limiting him to 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Although the Celtics had some shortcomings, such as turnovers and missed free throws, they dominated the boards with a 69-43 rebounding advantage. They also had a 14-6 edge in second-chance points. With the All-Star break ahead, the Celtics will look to address areas of improvement to continue their positive momentum in the second half of the season.
Fans can look forward to the Celtics’ return to action on February 20 against the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite missing key players like Jaylen Brown and Jrue Holiday, the Celtics demonstrated depth and resilience in their win over the Spurs, setting a strong foundation for the remainder of the season.
