An investigation has been launched into a tourist attraction in southwestern China after guests complained of being deceived with fake snow made out of cotton wool and foamy water. The Chengdu Snow Village project in Sichuan province was promoting the fake snow as real, leading to complaints from tourists. The culture and tourism bureau in Chengdu confirmed the reports and ordered the attraction to dismantle the fake snow scene and offer refunds to deceived guests. The village has apologized for the deception and blamed the warm weather in the region for forcing them to use fake snow. The bureau has stated that they will strengthen supervision of tourist attractions to ensure they operate with integrity and standardize management. Users on social media have criticized the village for false advertising, with one calling it a “snow village without snow.” China officials are continuing to investigate the incident and have closed the village while the investigation is ongoing. Refunds are being offered to guests who were misled by the fake snow.
