The Westfield City Council recently approved $1 million in free cash to the Turf Project Fund for the construction of a new concession stand and bathrooms at Westfield High School’s new athletic field. The vote was 11 to 1, with Kristen Mello as the sole dissenting vote. Finance subcommittee chair, Ralph Figy, explained that the committee had a detailed discussion with Purchasing Director Tammy Tefft regarding the necessary number of bathroom stalls for the project. He also highlighted that 50% of the project cost is attributed to labor costs, which are required to be paid at prevailing wage rates.
The addition of the concession stand and bathrooms is a key component of the athletic field project at Westfield High School. The funding approval will help ensure that the project progresses smoothly and meets the needs of the school’s student-athletes and spectators. The new facilities will provide improved amenities and enhance the overall experience for attendees at sporting events and other activities held at the athletic field.
The project reflects the city’s commitment to investing in its educational and recreational infrastructure. By allocating funds to support the development of modern and functional facilities, Westfield aims to create a positive environment for its residents and promote a healthy and active lifestyle. The City Council’s decision to approve the additional funding underscores the importance of providing top-notch facilities for the community, further solidifying Westfield’s reputation as a city that values the well-being and development of its residents.
