The Karen Reed Murder Trial: What We’ve Learned

A judge in Massachusetts has declared a mistrial in the murder case of Karen Read, who was accused of intentionally running over her boyfriend, a Boston police officer, and leaving him to die in the snow. The case has sparked controversy and drawn national attention, with Read’s supporters claiming she was framed and a police cover-up was involved.

The incident occurred in January 2022 when Read and her boyfriend were out drinking and got into a fight at a party. Prosecutors allege that Read deliberately backed her vehicle into her boyfriend before leaving him injured in the snow. Her boyfriend was found unresponsive the next morning and later died from severe head injuries and hypothermia.

Supporters of Read, who gathered outside the court wearing pink, have been advocating for her release and claiming her innocence. The case has been further complicated by allegations of witness intimidation and harassment by a Boston blogger known as Turtleboy, who also supports Read.

The police officer’s estate has filed a lawsuit against Read and two bars where they had been drinking that night. The case is still pending. The mistrial decision means that the trial will have to be restarted, prolonging the legal proceedings and keeping the case in the spotlight.
