After the disastrous Fyre Festival in 2017, founder Billy McFarland is back with Fyre Festival 2. In an interview with TODAY, McFarland announced the return of the festival, set to take place in Isla Mujeres. Unlike the original festival, McFarland will not handle details, with a festival operator in charge of organizing. No artists have been announced yet, but McFarland hopes to have big names across various genres.
Following the controversy of the first Fyre Festival, McFarland acknowledges the risk associated with the new event. The original event, billed as a luxury music experience, left attendees disappointed with poor conditions and no concert. McFarland pleaded guilty to wire fraud charges and served a six-year prison sentence.
Fyre Festival 2, scheduled for May 30 to June 2, will offer a range of tickets from $1,400 to $1.1 million. The festival aims to provide an adventure beyond just luxury accommodations, including scuba diving and travel to other islands. Despite the past failures, McFarland is optimistic about the second festival’s success and expects to sell out quickly based on interest shown on the website.
