President Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, vows to bring consequences to sanctuary city Boston

Tom Homan, the former “border czar” for President Donald Trump’s administration, is now targeting the City of Boston’s sanctuary city policies. At the Conservative Political Action Conference, Homan issued a warning to Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox, accusing him of neglecting his duty in targeting criminals who are in the country illegally. He also criticized the state’s police forces for releasing criminals who are in the country illegally.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, who supports the city’s sanctuary status, fired back at Homan’s comments, defending Boston Police Commissioner Cox and highlighting the city’s low crime rates. The mayor is set to testify before a congressional oversight committee investigating sanctuary city policies, along with other mayors from cities like New York and Chicago.

Massachusetts has eight sanctuary cities, including Boston, Cambridge, and Newton. While Governor Maura Healey defended the state’s immigration policies in a recent interview, the issue of sanctuary city status remains a contentious topic. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman has launched a probe into sanctuary cities, with mayors like Wu set to testify.

In response to Homan’s comments, Mayor Wu and other officials have defended Boston’s sanctuary city status and its impact on public safety. The debate over sanctuary cities and immigration policies is likely to continue as the issue remains a key point of contention in the current political landscape.
