The Massachusetts Teachers Association has come under fire for failing to fully address antisemitic and offensive content in its resource list on the Israel-Hamas war, despite promises to do so. Jewish advocacy groups, teachers, and elected leaders have criticized the MTA for not removing all problematic materials, including a children’s workbook that refers to Zionists as “bullies.” The Anti-Defamation League expressed outrage at the one-sided and biased content that remains on the list. State Senator John Velis and State Representative Simon Cataldo, co-chairs of the Special Commission on Combatting Antisemitism, have criticized the MTA for not taking sufficient action to address the harmful materials. The Massachusetts Educators Against Antisemitism teachers’ group reported that 95% of the resources are still online, with only two links being removed. The MTA leadership’s response to the backlash has been seen as insufficient, with concerns raised about the impact on students and the public’s trust in the organization. The MTA has stated that it will remove any materials that do not promote understanding, but concerns about bias and hate speech persist.
