The Trump administration has bypassed congressional review to approve a nearly $3 billion arms sale to Israel, providing the country with more bombs to use in the war against Hamas in Gaza. The sale includes over 35,500 bombs and 4,000 warheads, with deliveries set to begin next year. Secretary of State Marco Rubio justified the emergency sale as being in the national security interests of the United States. In addition to the bomb sale, Rubio also approved another munitions sale worth $675.7 million and the emergency sale of bulldozers worth $295 million. The State Department’s notifications to Congress late Friday outlined the details of the sales, with the justification that an emergency exists requiring the immediate provision of defense articles and services to Israel. The arms sales to Israel have raised concerns among some members of Congress, who question the decision to bypass the usual review process.
