Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas’ 26th Congressional District introduced the “Golden Age Act of 2025” bill on Monday, proposing to replace Benjamin Franklin’s image on the $100 bill with that of President Donald Trump. Gill believes featuring Trump on the bill would honor his accomplishments during his presidency. The bill would require the Secretary of Treasury to release a preliminary design featuring Trump by the end of 2026 and all $100 bills after 2028 would need to feature Trump’s image. Rep. Troy Nehls of Texas’s 22nd congressional district is a co-sponsor of the bill.
Gill, who grew up on a cattle ranch in Texas, worked on Wall Street before launching a conservative news outlet. It is unclear whether the bill will pass, as only about 6% of legislation introduced in Congress actually becomes law. The proposal to put Trump on the $100 bill is not the only attempt to memorialize the current president, as Rep. Anna Paulina Luna of Florida introduced a bill to carve Trump into Mount Rushmore. With Republicans controlling the Senate and House, Gill’s bill has a chance of advancing, but many bills are introduced without the expectation of passing. Trump is set to address Congress for the first time in his new term, and his speech is expected to have an ‘imperial’ tone, according to analysts. The bill’s journey to becoming law will include the need for approval from both the House and Senate, as well as the president’s signature.
