Suspect in 1978 Massachusetts Double Murder Case Identified as Clearwater Man

Authorities in Clearwater, Florida, have arrested a suspect in a 1978 double murder case in Massachusetts. Timothy Joley, 70, was arrested in connection to the killings of Theresa Marcoux and Mark Harnish, who were found shot to death in West Springfield. The bodies of the young couple were discovered near a rest area, and it was suspected that they were moved after being killed inside a truck.

Joley was connected to the case through a partial fingerprint found at the crime scene that matched a fingerprint he gave for a taxi driver license in 2000. Investigators received a tip about Joley’s involvement in the murders, leading to his arrest. Joley had purchased a Colt handgun just before the murders, but authorities have not determined a motive or how he knew the victims.

Joley’s landlord described him as a nice person and a veteran, expressing disbelief at his arrest. Joley maintains his innocence, telling his landlord that he did not commit the murders. He remains in the Pinellas County Jail as the case unfolds.

The Hampden District Attorney’s office reopened the case after receiving new information, leading to a breakthrough in the investigation after nearly 46 years. The arrest of Joley brings hope for justice for the families of the victims after decades of uncertainty.
