In the Season 23 premiere of “American Idol”, Baltimore artist Gabby Samone received support and encouragement from superstar alumna Jennifer Hudson, who placed seventh in Season 3 and is one of the few EGOT winners. Samone caught Hudson’s attention in 2020, leading to an invitation to appear on Hudson’s talk show in 2022. When Samone asked for advice on auditioning for “American Idol”, Hudson told her to go for it. This proved to be the right decision, as Samone wowed the judges with her rendition of “A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin, earning a standing ovation from Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan. Richie was moved to tears by Samone’s performance, stating that she deserved to be heard. All three judges agreed to send Samone to the next round of the competition. Samone’s talent and Hudson’s support have set her on a promising path in the music industry.
