Campbell defended her original $82.7 million budget request for fiscal year 2026, emphasizing the need for every penny to continue delivering results for residents and returning money to the General Fund.
Campbell and her team have been busy challenging the Trump administration on various policies, including lawsuits against attempts to eliminate birthright citizenship, federal spending cuts, and access to personal data. Amid concerns about potential federal cuts, Campbell stressed the importance of her office’s work and the need for additional funding to continue effectively representing Massachusetts.
The AG also highlighted the dedication of her staff who have chosen to work in the public sector despite more lucrative opportunities in the private sector. She praised their efforts in securing significant settlements, including with tobacco manufacturers and Purdue Pharma, emphasizing the need to close the funding gap to continue their important work.
As Massachusetts policymakers brace for possible federal cuts that could impact local businesses and state government, Campbell urged lawmakers to approve the requested budget increase, emphasizing the crucial role her office plays in defending the state’s interests.
