Coast Guard rescues woman trapped in Oregon river: Video footage available

A 71-year-old woman was rescued by helicopter after her car became stuck in the McKenzie River near Springfield, Oregon. The rescue mission was complicated by high water, darkness, and the location of the vehicle stuck on a rock ledge in the middle of the river. A rescue swimmer from the U.S. Coast Guard, Tyler Gantt, broke the woman’s sunroof to help her escape from the vehicle. Gantt’s water training allowed him to successfully extract the woman from the car and get her to safety. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and the incident is currently under investigation. The rescue footage shows the gripping moments of the woman being saved from the turbulent river. Springfield is located five miles from Eugene, Oregon.
