Nonprofit confirms Bald Eaglet missing during storm has been found deceased

Beloved bald eagle couple, Jackie and Shadow, have sadly lost one of their three eaglets in a winter storm. The eaglet was last seen alive being fed on Thursday evening, but its death was revealed as the snow from the storm melted. The cause of death is unknown, but the organization Friends of Big Bear Valley expressed sadness and honored the life of the chick for its courage. The remaining two eaglets are reported to be doing well, with their parents continuing to care for them.

Jackie and Shadow have garnered an online following after a webcam was set up by a preservation group in Big Bear Lake Forest in 2016. The eagle pair has had a history of drama with their offspring, welcoming chicks in 2019 and 2022, but losing eggs in 2023 and 2024. The recent hatching of the three eaglets earlier this month had been a source of excitement for their followers. The storm not only caused the loss of one eaglet but also damaged some of the organization’s equipment.

Despite the sadness of losing one of their eaglets, the organization continues to trust in nature and the reasons behind its actions. Jackie and Shadow remain dedicated parents to their remaining two eaglets, bringing joy to their online followers with their ongoing care.
