The New England Patriots cut ties with four players, including seasoned center

In a series of roster transactions, the New England Patriots have released several players they recently signed to futures contracts as head coach Mike Vrabel and assistant general manager Eliot Wolf continue to make over the team’s roster. The moves include releasing veteran center Lecitus Smith, linebacker Curtis Jacobs, tackle Caleb Jones, and linebacker Andrew Parker Jr. These moves have brought the Patriots roster down to 69 players, leaving them with 21 open spots on their 90-man roster. The team is scheduled to have nine picks in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

Smith, 26, was signed to the Patriots 53-man roster last season and provided depth at the center position after the team lost David Andrews to injury. Jacobs, 23, was claimed off waivers at the end of training camp and played in nine games for the Patriots. Jones, a massive 6-foot-9, 370-pound tackle, spent the season on the practice squad, while Parker, 24, was signed late last season.

All the players released on Friday were brought in last season under former head coach Jerod Mayo. As the Patriots continue to make changes to their roster, it is clear that Vrabel and Wolf have a specific vision for the team moving forward. With a strong draft position and a number of open roster spots, the team is looking to build a competitive squad for the upcoming season.
