John Pitzel, a 62-year-old runner from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, shares his inspiring story of running the 2025 Boston Marathon for a special cause. Pitzel is running on behalf of Kris Murner, who is unable to participate due to an injury. Murner has previously run Boston for her son Eli, who suffers from Stargardt Disease, a genetic condition affecting central vision. Eli is part of a genetic trial funded by Team Eye and Ear to find a treatment for the disease.
Despite never meeting in person, Pitzel connected with Murner through a Facebook group and decided to run on her behalf. This will be his first Boston Marathon and he is eager to support a cause that aims to find a cure for Stargardt Disease. Pitzel’s story highlights the power of social media in bringing people together for a common cause and showcases how individuals can make a difference through acts of kindness and generosity. Join us in applauding John Pitzel as he embarks on this meaningful journey at the Boston Marathon.
