12 Massachusetts counties under weather alert until Friday morning

A special weather statement issued by the National Weather Service warned of an elevated risk for fire spread in several counties in Massachusetts on Sunday. The statement, in effect from Thursday at 5:26 p.m. until Friday at 4:30 a.m., covered areas including Northern and Southern Worcester, Franklin, Middlesex, Essex, and several other counties. Low relative humidity values and gusty west winds were expected to create dangerous conditions for potential fires. Officials urged caution when handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, and matches, as fires could spread rapidly. The forecast, which took into account meteorological, fuel, and land conditions, was developed in coordination with fire and land management officials in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The Advance Local Weather Alerts service, provided by United Robots, uses machine learning to compile the latest data from the National Weather Service to keep residents informed and safe.
