Marlborough Man Faces Charges after 96 Dead Animals Found in Sturbridge Rental Property
A Marlborough man, Andrew Sebastiano, is facing charges of animal cruelty after 96 dead animals were discovered at a rental property in Sturbridge. The animals, which included chickens, geese, pigs, ducks, and rabbits, were found last week, leading to Sebastiano’s arraignment on multiple charges.
According to officials, Sebastiano allegedly abandoned the property in February, leaving the animals to perish. One adult dog was also seized and is now in the care of MSPCA-Angell. This case has been described as an extremely disturbing instance of animal cruelty by Sturbridge Police Chief Earl Dessert.
Sebastiano had previously pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges in 2021 and was sentenced to probation. Lawmakers are now considering legislation that would ban individuals convicted of animal cruelty crimes from owning an animal for at least five years.
The MSPCA-Angell director, Chris Schindler, has expressed the need for additional tools to address animal cruelty cases effectively. Sebastiano is being held without bail, pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for April 1.
